The track runs between Bannockburn (near Cromwell) and Garston, featuring a challenging mix of gravel, rocky sections, and mud, with technical water crossings in the central valley. Access is restricted to four-wheel-drive vehicles, and the road is closed annually from the first Monday in June to September 30 due to snow.
